"Perry Poisons Education Funding"

Texas, not usually recognized for it's educational system, is receiving a big hit this year on behalf of Governor Rick Perry.  As part of a 26 billion dollar job support fund, the US had set aside 10 billion for education spending to prevent teacher layoffs.  Texas applied to receive $830 million of that fund.  Out application was rejected and instead of receiving our share of the money, we will be receiving none of it as of now.  There have already been plenty of teacher layoffs in Texas, but with this extra money school districts were hoping the layoffs would be over.  Austin Independent School District is definitely going to be affected, but they are not in as much trouble as some other districts in Texas.  Austin hadn't committed to using any of extra funds they were supposed to be receiving this year, but other schools such as Waco ISD were expecting 4.6 million dollars and they had already committed to spending it.  I feel that this is definitely well worth the read because, if I recall correctly, almost our entire class is from Texas and we have had first hand experience of the educational systems in our state.
